Coach Wengert, enters his fifth season in the dugout for SCC.  Hired in late October of 2020, coach missed most of the fall, but hit the ground running on the recruiting trail.   Wengert lead the Cougars to one of the best starts in school history (15-9), before injuries derailed the season.  In his first season the Cougars where able to nab 2 All-Region selections, 3 All-Conference selections and 2 All Region Tournament Team selections.  The Cougars also finished with 3.3 GPA in Wengert's first season, which in turn landed 4 Academic All-Americans.      

The Cougars have moved from a locally talented team to a national represented roster. Wengert's ability to recruit  Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Colorado have led the program to new heights.  Entering year five, the Cougars are poised to make some noise within with always competitive Region 16.  After a year that saw the Cougars win a school record 37 games, they are ready to be the hunted.  The Cougars will add nine freshman to an already talented returning group.  Coach Wengert and his staff sent five players on after last season; Reese Smith (Lincoln Univ.- DII), Caitlin Cushenbery and Kodie VanEycke (both to UMSL - DII), Jarah Hoffman (Columbia College - NAIA) and Kaylen Grammer (SIU-C - DI).  

In just four years at the helm, Coach Wengert's impact as been felt.  After the four years, Coach Wengert became the winningest coach in program history.  He enters the season with over 100 wins at St. Charles.  He surpassed current Southeast Missouri State Head Coach Mark Redburn as the school's leader in wins within a career at SCC.

In the fall of 2024, Coach Wengert was also named Assistant Athletic Director here at St. Charles CC.  He helps with eligibility issues, works on the athletic website and does other numerous jobs for the student-athletes here at St. Charles CC.    

A native of Perryville, Missouri, Wengert comes to SCC from Mineral Area College with a wide background of success.

Wengert, who started with MAC in November of 2019, was just getting into the swing of things, before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Wengert's primary responsibilities included working with the infielders and hitters.  He is also known for his diligent work as a recruiter both locally and nationally. 

Prior to his time at MAC he spent 3 season on the softball diamond at Perryville High School, Wengert was the head coach of the girls' softball team at Perryville High School. Wengert led the Pirates to two MSHSAA Class 3 district championship in the three seasons and coached 3 All-State players during that time. The Perryville HS team batted .372 as a team with a .955 fielding percent while going 18-6 in his last season.

Prior to the time at Perryville, Wengert worked as an assistant coach to Steve Bieser, Head Baseball Coach, Jacksonsville State University, in the Prospect League (Danville Dans) in the summer of 2010.  Wengert, coached first base, threw batting practice and helped with the defensive alignment during the games.  The Dans would capture the West Division title that summer.  

Wengert has also served as an Assistant Coach at his college alma mater Westminster College, in Fulton MO.  He spent two years there while finishing his degree.  Wengert has also coached high school boys' basketball and girls' soccer, claiming multiple conference, district and even state titles in those. 

Wengert graduated from Westminster College in 2005.  He then attended Missouri Baptist University to receive his teaching certification in 2014.  Wengert returned to school and received his Masters in Sports Administration/Coaching from Concordia University-Irvine in the summer of 2017. 

Wengert makes his home in Ste. Genevieve, MO, with his wife Regan.  They have four sons Oliver, (13) Louis, (10) Leo, (4) and Archie (1).
