SCC Softball played the North Central Pirates at home this past Saturday for a doubleheader. This is the second meet up between the two teams. The ladies played the NC Pirates previously on March 24th at North Central and lost both games. This time around, the Cougars were prepared and came out victorious, winning both games.
Game One – Win 8-0
The Cougars came out strong, getting six runs in the first inning. Yasmin Sandoval singled, scoring one run, Maddy Seifert singled, scoring one run, Ella Lause tripled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Morgan Thomas singled, scoring one run. We managed to get two more runs in the fourth inning. Ella Lause singled, scoring one, and Morgan Thomas hit a fly out, allowing for one run.
Maci Knowles pitched the five-inning game. She gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking three.
Game Two – Win 6-5
Game two provided a closer finish, as the Cougars secured a walk-off win. After scoring early in game one, game two was a slower start to score for the Cougars. The women trailed 5-0 after the top of the sixth inning. But in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Cougs started their comeback. SCC Cougars made the score 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Emily Parsons singled, scoring one run, and Yasmin Sandoval homered to right field, scoring three runs. Two more runs were scored in the bottom of the seventh, taking the lead. Emily Budd singled down the right field line, and Alayna Johnson doubled to right field, each scoring one run.
Ayla Smith pitched game two for the Cougars. She gave up seven hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.
Cougars Softball will be on the road to start the week for back-to-back doubleheaders. They will play at Metropolitan Community College on Monday, followed by games at State Fair Community College on Tuesday.
