SCC Softball traveled to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, this past week for the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic is an annual tournament that allows colleges and universities around the country to compete. In total, the women played 6 games, with the final two games scheduled for Monday cancelled due to weather. The Cougars are coming back undefeated, winning all 6 games.
In game one, the Cougars faced off against the St. Clair County Community College Skippers. The women had a six-run lead by the end of the third inning. The Skippers pushed back in the sixth, but the Cougars didn’t let them get ahead, winning 7-5. Hayli Venable led the team in hits in game one, getting three hits in three at-bats.
Once again, the Cougars took the lead early on in game two against Madison College, scoring five runs in the first inning. The game got tense after the Wolves pushed back in the fifth, taking the lead 9-7. But the Lady Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Hannah Cantrell, Maddy Siefert, Zoey Robinson, Chloe Staffen, and Chloe Turnbull all had multiple hits in the game.
On Saturday morning, the women kicked off day two against USC Sumter. Game three was a strong game for the pitchers from both sides. SCC’s pitcher, Bryten Kendrick, pitched all seven innings and only let up one hit and one run. Despite strong pitching from USC Sumter, the Cougars managed two runs, which were just enough to win, 2-1.
The Cougars played Delaware Technical Community College for game four, which took place on Saturday. The women took over the game in the fourth inning, scoring three runs. Hannah Cantrell led in hits with three hits in four at-bats. Maddy Siefert led in RBIs with two.
Sunday morning, the Cougars faced South Suburban College. The ladies started strong from the first inning, scoring four runs. Maddy Siefert played a big role in the win, earning four RBIs. The Cougars pitchers, Ayla Smith for the first four innings, followed by Yasmin Sandoval in relief, both allowed only two hits.
In the sixth and final game, against Onondaga Community College, SCC proved their strength again. The Cougars took the lead early on, scoring three runs in both the first and second innings. Emily Parsons led in hits in game six, with three hits in three at-bats.
The Lady Cougars will continue with regular-season games on Saturday, March 21st, at Jefferson College.
