SCC Softball at Firelake JUCO Invitational

SCC Cougars traveled to Shawnee, Oklahoma, on Thursday, February 26th, to face off at the Firelake JUCO Invitational. After a tough weekend, the women left with one win and three losses.  

 

Game 1 vs Northern Oklahoma College Jets  

The Cougars started the weekend on Friday, February 27th, with a victory, beating the Jets 6-4.  

SCC Cougars got on the board first in the top of the second inning after the NOC Jets committed an error on a hit by Emily Budd, allowing Ella Lause to score a run. Hayli Venable also got a hit, getting out, but allowing Budd to make it home, increasing the lead to 2-0. 

The Jets made a comeback in the third inning, scoring 3 runs, turning the score in their favor. However, the SCC Cougars pushed back, scoring 4 runs in the fifth inning, making the score 6-3. Addy Thornton doubled on a line drive, allowing Hannah Cantrell to score. Later followed by Isbell Priddy hitting a single, causing a domino of runs scored by Zoey Robinson, Emily Budd, and Addy Thornton. The Jets got one more run on the board in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn’t manage the win.  

Game 2 vs Seminole State College 

SCC faced Seminole State College in the second game of the evening. The Cougars attempted to fight back in the later innings but couldn’t catch up to the lead Seminole State secured early on.  

Seminole State Softball started with the lead early on, scoring in the bottom of the first. They cemented the lead by scoring five runs on five hits in the second inning. SCC remained without a run in the first 4 innings.  

The Lady SCC Cougars didn’t leave the game without a fight. They managed to score 4 runs in the last two innings, but couldn’t manage to lessen the large lead, losing 4-12.  

Game 3 vs Rose State College 

On Saturday morning, the Couguars played their third game of the tournament, playing Rose State College.  

The Rose State Raiders took the lead early on in the first and then continued to add runs in the following innings. The Cougars managed to score 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth; run came from Alayna Johnson, Morgan Thomas, and Hannah Cantrell. The Raiders showed that they are a strong team, winning 15-3 against our SCC Cougars. 

Game 4 vs UA Rich Mountain 

For the last game of the tournament, the SCC Cougars faced the UA Rich Mountain Bucks. The score remained 0-0 until the fourth inning, when both teams managed to get on the board. SCC’s first run came from a fly ball hit by Nevaeh Carter, allowing Emily Budd to score. The next two runs came due to two separate walks by the pitcher, advancing our runners to home. Unfortunately, the Bucks were able to score again in the fourth and fifth innings, securing their win. The Cougars lost 3-7. 

   

Next up, the women will play at Southeastern Illinois College on March 3rd for a doubleheader.
