The Cougars matched up against State Fair Community College this past weekend in a four-game series. They played two games on Thursday, March 19th at State Fair and two games on Saturday, March 20th, at home. SCC had a fairly successful weekend, winning three of the four games.
The Cougars started strong in game one, winning 8-0. Jonathon Frey had an impressive game with three hits (including two home runs), three runs, and five total RBIs. Davis Robinson also had a home run, earning his first collegiate home run at the top of the second inning. Conner Henke started as pitcher for SCC in game one. He pitched just over four innings, striking out five and walking two. Jacksen Tankersley stepped in to pitch the remainder of the game in relief. Tankersley allowed one hit and struck out two.
Game two had a hot start with five runs in the first inning. Bo Cooper led in hits with three hits in three at bats. Jaiden Glency had five RBIs, two hits (including one home run), and two runs in his four at bats. The Cougars won game two 10-5.
The Cougars out hit State Fair in game three, two-to-one, with 12 total hits. Ethan Chiodini had three hits in his four at bats, earning two RBIs. Brenan Goering also had a strong game with five RBIs, three from a grand slam in the second inning. Jaiden Glency had two hits in the game, as well, with one being a home run in the third. Cole Harris pitched all five innings in the game. He allowed six hits and struck out two batters.
Game four ended in the Cougars only loss in the series, despite the Cougars collecting 14 hits to State Fair's 12. The game remained within reach for most of the game, with SCC flipping the game in their favor in the fifth inning after scoring five runs. But State Fair pushed back in the eighth inning, scoring five runs, and SCC couldn't catch back up. The game ended 14-10. Kurt Leiber led in hits with three hits in four at bats.
The team is at home again on Tuesday, March 24th, to play against Dyersburg State.
